Printed Ephemera — 1841-1869
May the Next Picture be ours Dearest, say yes
Multi-layered, handfinished valentine's card comprising two sheets of lace paper attached one above the other by paper springs or hinges. Applied to the panel is a coloured paper print of two lovers in a rural setting with cupid in the background. Printed on the silk panel are the words 'May the Next Picture be ours Dearest, say yes'. A small thread is inserted in the top of the picture. When pulled the top half of the picture flaps down to reveal a second image of a mother, father and child seated at home. The top sheet of lace paper comprises a silver & white border with an open oval centre. Applied around the inner edge of the border is a wreath of white cotton flowers and silver and white embossed paper leaves.
