Printed Ephemera — 1841-1869
Card, valentine card
Layered, handfinished valentine's card comprising a silver and white lace paper border embossed with a drape, flower and foliage design surrounding a central panel of bottle green cotton velvet. Applied to the panel are cut out silver and white embossed lace paper decorations including a stair case, a boat containing musicians and a central conch shell with a central balconied door. A silk thread attached to the gilded paper door knocker may be pulled to flap the conch shell downwards revealing an embossed paper image of two classical figures getting married. The card also has an additional silver and white embossed lace paper floral garland attached to the panel by paper springs.
