Printed Ephemera — 1860-1880
Leap Year
Handfinished valentine's card comprising a top sheet of cream lace paper embossed with a floral and vase border design surrounding a rectangular shaped central panel. Applied to the panel is a piece of cream paper printed with a passage entitled 'Leap Year'. Above is applied a small piece of folded paper with a gilded and white lace paper flap with the handwritten message 'A speedy answer will oblige'. When unfolded the paper reveals the handwritten question 'Wilt thou have me to be thy wedded wife'. At the bottom of the card is applied an embossed coloured paper floral garland surrounding a cut out paper figure of an angel picking flowers.
