Funeral of the late Duke of Wellington
The Duke of Wellington died on 14 September 1852 and was honoured with a state funeral. The streets of London were lined with mourners as his funeral cortege passed by on its way to St Paul's Cathedral.
This ticket 'admits the bearer' to the funeral in St Paul's Cathedral. However, the date specified is incorrect as the funeral was held on 18 November 1852 and not 24 November 1852. The card is printed in black on cream card and on the reverse carries the name ' Miss Barnes' of 'Spalding'. It is possible that a number of fraudulent tickets were sold to people outside London.
