Printed Ephemera — 1841-1869
Card, valentine card
Handfinished valentine's card comprising two identical sheets of lace paper with floral and leaf border design. The two sheets are stuck one on top of the other, the undersheet is plain and the top sheet is coloured silver, blue, purple and red. The central area of the top sheet is filled with a sheet of cotton gauze under which is a coloured print illustrating spectators watching a married couple emerge from a church. The couple have been cut from the print and stuck onto the top of the cotton gauze giving the card a three dimensional effect. Below is a paper scrap printed with a four line love verse. The bottom right hand corner of the card is torn.
