Printed Ephemera — 1860-1880
A Tribute of Attachment
Handfinished valentine's card formed from layers of lace paper. The underlayer is by Windsor and is heavily embossed with a rural scene. A paper figure of cupid is applied to this panel. Above this layer is a second lace paper sheet attached by paper springs. This layer folds inwards and is shaped to represent two doors, pillars and screens embossed with a floral design. The doors have an applied paper oval printed 'A Tribute of attachment'. The doors open from the centre to reveal the silk panel below which is framed by garlands formed from pressed satin leaves, embossed paper leaves and velvet covered wire strips. The card is also decorated with applied paper prints of male and female figures.
