Printed Ephemera — 1841-1869
Remember me
Handfinished valentine's card formed from two layers of lace paper attached by paper springs or hinges to give a 3 dimensional effect. The under layer by Mansell is embossed with a scroll, flower and foliage design. This layer is decorated with an applied wreath including pressed cream satin leaves. In the centre is a paper print of a lake with a castle in the background and the printed verse 'Nought on earth my love can sever, Once to love is love for ever'. Concealing part of this print is an applied cut out paper image of a young female kneeling with a prayer book. The top layer comprises a border with embossed flower decoration and a small applied paper 'scrap' with gilded edge printed 'remember me'.
