Printed Ephemera — 1851-1870
Wilt thou be mine
Handfinished valentine's card with layers of lace paper and applied decoration. The top layer is a gilded and blue lace paper border embossed with leaf design, decorated with garlands of fabric flowers, dried grasses and paper leaves. This border is attached to an uncoloured bottom layer of lace paper by paper hinges. This bottom layer is embossed with a floral border design with figures surrounding a central panel of white cotton fur. Applied to this fur panel are cut out paper figures attending a church wedding service. Above is applied a pink and gilded lace paper sheet in the shape of a church window. The central area of the window opens to reveal the wedding group figures below.
