Card, valentine card
Quarto sized Valentine's card with embossed floral border and central handfinished coloured aquatint depicting a grieving woman. Above and below the print is written the message 'In this recess my passion here let sway to disappointment my heart's a prey I cannot long these pangs endure, Despair alone will yeild a cure.' The paper has the embossed maker's mark of J.King but the image was probably reprinted by King from a plate originally part of the 'Unrequited Love' or the 'Despondent Lover Set' published in the 1830s by Addenbrooke.
