Gloucester Street - old clothes market

In chapter XIX of 'London: a Pilgrimage' Blanchard Jerrold and Gustave Doré continue their tour of London market places with a visit to Gloucester Street old clothes market. Jerrold writes of "immense woe-begone communities, who are without knowledge or skill, and can consequently command only the lowest wage. Still, these tatterdemalions are eagerly sought for as customers. Behold them keenly testing and examining the huge bunches of rags that are temptingly hung from old clothesmen's doors and windows... There is a hard battle over every rag and trinket, and the noise of the strife is deafening'.
