Printed Ephemera — 1841-1860
Card, valentine card
Handfinished Valentine's card, the front comprising two layers of uncoloured lace paper held together by folded paper springs or hinges to give a 3D effect. The under layer is embossed with a flower and leaf design surrounding a central panel of cream satin. Applied to the panel is a silver paper cut out embossed figure of a classical female surrounded by a wreath of red cotton flowers and green embossed paper leaves. The top lace paper layer incorporates an embossed floral design with embossed cupid figures in each corner. Below is a paper 'scrap' printed with a love verse.
