The Ladies' Mile
An illustration of the Ladies' Mile from the book 'London: a Pilgrimage' by Blanchard Jerrold and Gustave Doré, 1872. The Lady's Mile was the carriage drive along the northern bank of the Serpentine. Jerrold writes that he and Doré would visit the park 'for a lazy cigar, and a study of Fashion riding or walking hard, in the bracing air'.
