The drive
An illustration of fashionable people driving in carriages in Hyde Park, from 'London: a Pilgrimage' by Blanchard Jerrold and Gustave Doré, 1872. Jerrold refers to 'the splendid crowd and hurly-burly of the Park'. In 'Cruchley's new guide to London' of 1862 readers are advised that 'During the season, Hyde Park attracts within its precincts all the wealth, fashion, and beauty of London, and in no other civilised country can be seen such a spectacle as is then presented by the Lady's Mile and Rotten Row.'
