Printed Ephemera — 1841-1860
A Tribute of Attachment
Handfinished Valentine's card comprising two identical layers of white lace paper incorporating an embossed design of two lovers, flowers, birds and foliage. The central roundel of the underlayer has applied decoration of an embossed paper angel surrounded by an applied wreath of silver embossed paper leaves. The roundel of the top layer is open but has an applied cotton net panel surrounded by a wreath of blue silk and gilded paper leaves. Below is an applied paper 'scrap' printed 'a tribute of attachment'. Also decorated with a garland of white and cream satin fabric leaves with gilded and embossed paper leaves and flowers. The two layers are attached by folded paper hinges or springs to give a 3 dimensional effect.
