Printed Ephemera — 1850-1869
Card, valentine card
Handfinished Valentine's card of gilded and white lace paper designed in the form of an envelope which opens to reveal inner, applied decoration. Two of the envelope flaps resemble doors which open from the centre. The doors are of white lace paper, each having a central panel or cartouche with gilded frame. The back of the card has a central oval plain panel surrounded by a gilded frame. When the 'doors' of the card are open they reveal applied decoration of an inner garland comprising gilded and embossed paper flowers and leaves.
