Printed Ephemera — 1860-1880
To My Little Dear
Handfinished Valentine's card comprising two sheets of identical lace paper lavishly embossed with classical figures, columns, flowers, urns and foliage. The undersheet is plain white, the top sheet is part painted silver. Applied to the undersheet is a cut out paper illustration of four reindeer at rest in a rural setting. Below is applied an oval shaped piece of paper printed 'To my Little Dear' surrounded by a gilded, embossed paper frame. When the card is closed this applied decoration can be seen through the open panel of the top sheet.
