Printed Ephemera — 1860-1880
Card, valentine card
Handfinished Valentine's card formed from white lace paper part painted silver and elaborately embossed with figures of cupid, bowls of fruit, flowers, birds and a staircase. Applied to the open central oval panel a piece of paper printed with an illustration of a young girl reaching out for an envelope placed on a garden wall. Above is a paper scrap printed 'May Happiness be ever thine'. Inside the card are handwritten pencil notes relating to the producer's stock. With the heading 'Baxter's Prints' there follows a list of numbers and code references, these probably refer to the printed paper illustrations used to decorate the handfinished valentines cards.
