Printed Ephemera — 1855-1879
From A True Lover
Handfinished Valentine's card formed from two layers of lace paper. Comprising a sheet of white lace paper by Wood embossed with flower and foliage design surrounding a central oval panel. Applied on top is a layer of blue lace paper embossed with figures, vine and leaf design. The two layers are attached by paper springs or hinges to give a three dimensional effect. The central open panel on the undersheet has a silver paper backing. Applied to this backing paper by a paper spring is a white paper motif cameo embossed with two classical figures flanking a bird bath being filled with water by cupid. Also decorated with an applied garland of embossed coloured flowers and a paper scrap marked 'From a True Lover'.
