Printed Ephemera — 1845-1870
I love thee as the glad Bird loves the freedom of his wing
Valentine's card formed from two layers of embossed lace paper with applied decoration. The undersheet is by Kershaw & Son and has a white lace border embossed with leaf design. In the centre is a thin white cotton panel with applied decoration of an embossed white paper leaf wreath and an embossed paper church. The top layer is part painted silver and comprises a lace paper border with embossed flower decoration. Decorated also with applied silk and cotton leaves. With flowers and a paper scrap printed 'I love thee as the glad Bird loves the freedom of his wing' . The central panel is open revealing the decoration of the under layer.
