Card, valentine card
Valentine's card of embossed lace paper layers with applied decoration. Comprising an under sheet of white paper with lace paper border embossed with rose decoration. In the centre of this sheet is applied a cotton panel bordered with a frame of silver embossed paper leaves. The top layer comprises a silver lace paper border with cotton net central panel. In the centre is applied a raffia basket filled with fabric flowers below a paper dove carrying an envelope. This decoration is bordered by an oval frame of white fabric leaves.
Victorian Valentine's cards like this could be made from commercially-produced papers. Paper lace was a popular card base and printed scraps would be added to adorn and personalise the cards.
