Card, valentine card
Valentine's card the front formed from two layers of embossed lace paper. The under layer is white, on the central panel is applied a coloured paper illustration of cupid firing an arrow frammed by a garland of embossed and coloured paper flowers and foliage. The top layer of lace paper is painted blue and is applied as an outer frame for the central image. Also applied to the top layer is an arrangement of coloured paper flowers & leaves.
Victorian Valentine's cards like this could be made from commercially-produced papers. Paper lace was a popular card base and printed scraps would be added to adorn and personalise the cards.
