Card, valentine card

Valentine's card composed of two layers of embossed and lace paper. The under layer is of lilac with a central roundel embossed with a woman descending a staircase. The top layer is painted green and elaborately embossed with flowers, a framed cupid and a framed sheep. In the centre is applied a separate piece of silver lace paper representing a fountain. Below is applied an arrangement of embossed and coloured paper flowers and foliage.

Victorian Valentine's cards like this could be made from commercially-produced papers. Paper lace was a popular card base and printed scraps would be added to adorn and personalise the cards.
