Card, valentine card

Valentine's card formed from two layers of lace paper painted silver and gold. The under layer is embossed with elaborate decoration of classical urns, flowers and figures. Applied to this are three oval shaped pieces of paper with coloured illustrations of idyllic rural scenes, each surrounded by an embossed frame painted silver. The flower illustrations flap down to reveal a love motto printed on circular paper with scalloped border. The first reads 'Under this leaf you will see The name of one beloved by me', the second ''Tis strange but true my heart has fled from me to you', and 'Dearest, say Dost thou incline take my heart and give me thine'. The top layer of lace paper comprises a gilded border with an open rectangular shaped centre to reveal the framed illustrations below. This top layer of embossed lace paper is embellished with angelic paper 'scraps', coloured paper flowers and two small paper cartouche printed 'Cupid's Letter rack, may it often contain a letter from you' and 'Cupid's Cabinet'.
