Card, valentine card
Valentine's card formed from embossed and lace paper, part coloured silver. The design of the paper is elaborate and includes pillars, foliage, flowers and the figure of a man holding aloft a vase of flowers. In the centre a rectangular shaped panel has been cut out and a coloured paper illustration of birds and flowers has been applied in the space. Also printed with a love motto with gilded border 'If you my suit approve. This use for my sake'.
The introduction of the penny post in 1840 meant sending cards became easier and cheaper. A thriving business developed in central London producing cards and card components.
