Printed Ephemera — 1851-1880
I love Thee as the glad Bird loves the freedom of his wing
Valentine's card with the front formed from three layers of lace paper. The under layer is of white lace paper embossed with vine decoration and with white central panel handpainted with a basket of flowers. This layer is stamped 'Kershaw & Son'. The middle layer comprises an oval shaped embossed and lace paper central border painted silver. The top layer has an open central, oval shaped panel revealing the decoration below and a green and silver lace paper border embossed with rose design. An inner border is of white cotton lace. Also decorated with an arrangement of coloured paper flowers and foliage. A small lilac 'scrap' is printed 'I love Thee as the glad Bird loves the freedom of his wing'
