Printed Ephemera — 1851-1880
A Tribute of Attachment
Valentine's card with central coloured illustration of a deer being chased by dogs or foxes with fancy gilded border. The paper illustration is applied to a padded white envelope which is in turn applied to the central panel of a white sheet of paper decorated with a lace paper border. To the bottom left of the card is a section of printed text which reads: 'A tribute of attachment'.
Paper lace was a popular card base and printed scraps would be added to adorn and personalise the cards. This card was originally in the collection of Jonathan King, a stationer and newsagent who ran his own business making cards on Essex Road.
