Printed Ephemera — 1840-1865
Card, valentine card
Valentine's card comprising three layers of decorative lace paper. The top sheet is formed from white and gilded lace paper with cameo style embossing of classical figures. The centre is open to reveal a cameo embossed image from the second lace paper sheet depicting two winged angels carrying aloft a cupid. This second layer also has an applied scrap printed 'Accept the Gift for the Giver's Sake'. The third sheet has a plain white central panel with applied embossed 'scrap' of a lady on horseback (possibly Queen Victoria) above which is a coloured 'scrap' of a cupid. The panel has a paper lace leaf border, part painted silver.
