The Leap Year Match
Valentine's card with embossed and lace paper front cover. On the central plain panel is stuck two coloured 'scrap' decorations of flowers and doves. Also a rectangular piece of pink card with embossed and lace paper border and the wording 'The Leap Year Match'. The handwritten verse begins 'I propose we join partnership and I will be your co.', the pink card which flaps down completes the verse 'Ready and willing to strike it with you, dear' under the verse is a gold metal foil tinsel wedding ring.
Victorian Valentine's cards like this could be made from commercially-produced papers. Paper lace was a popular card base and printed scraps would be added to adorn and personalise the cards.
