Printed Ephemera — 1851-1900
So sweet, so simple and so shy
Valentine's card with green outer cover and pink inside. On the front cover is printed a caricature of a middle aged female and the verse 'So sweet, so simple and so shy' 'To see her was to love her' - Byron'. The printed verse inside reads 'Dear Madam, I send this to let you know that I have fallen desperately in love with you, and I ask you to fly with me to some far off region, where we will be for ever happy. Devotedly yours, A. Crackedpate The Lunatic Asylum Crazytown'. Although love was a dominant theme for Valenine's cards, insulting and comic cards were also common.
