To her I Love
Valentine's card comprising a single sheet of card with shaped edging. With a central heart shaped satin pad printed with a two verse poem 'To her I Love'. It reads: 'There is a lip of ruby dye, A cheek of roseate glow; There is a piercing azure eye, A bosom pure as snow! Dearest, they are thine. But there's a lip of paler hue, A cheek with anguish worn, An eye that weeps in vain for you a heart with sorrow torn, Dearest, they are mine'. The pad is bordered with a garland of handpainted blue flowers.
The introduction of the penny post in 1840 meant sending cards became easier and cheaper. A thriving business developed in central London producing cards and card components.
