Printed Ephemera — 1841-1860
Mr Potter as the Ghost in Hamlet
Handcoloured theatrical souvenir print engraved with a portrait of the actor Mr Potter in the role of the Ghost from Hamlet. The portrait is embellished with metal foil tinsel ornaments notably on the armour and dress accessories. Armour was a common feature of tinsel prints, as it offered so much scope for tinselling. The clothing is of cotton and silk. The portrait has been cut from a paper sheet and mounted on card. Such portraits would have been sold plain for colouring and tinselling at home.
