Printed Ephemera — 1835-1860
Miss Paton as Mandane
Handcoloured theatrical souvenir print engraved with a portrait of the actress Miss Paton in the role of Mandane. The portrait has been cut from a paper sheet and mounted onto plain card. The portrait is embellished with metal foil tinsel ornaments notably on the jewellery and dress accessories. The clothing is of silk and cotton. Such portraits would have been sold plain for colouring and tinselling at home and were commonly produced of male actors, whose armour and weapons offered ample scope for tinselling.
