Printed Ephemera — 1825-1840
Mr J.S.Grimaldi
Uncoloured theatrical souvenir print engraved with a portrait of the actor Mr J.S.Grimaldi as Vanderdecken in the play The Flying Dutchman. Such prints would have been sold plain as theatrical souvenirs for colouring and tinselling at home. Grimlaldi was best known for his popular and innovative performances as clown, but this print shows him playing the role of a villainous character in a melodrama.
