Printed Ephemera — 1830-1860
Tinsel print
Handcoloured theatrical souvenir portrait plate of an unnamed character. The portrait has been cut out from a paper sheet and stuck onto cardboard handcoloured with background scenery illustrating a castle. The portrait is embellished with metal foil tinsel ornaments notably on the characters armour, guns and dress accessories. The character's clothing is of cotton. Such portraits would have been sold plain as theatrical souvenirs for colouring and tinselling at home.
