Printed Ephemera — 1836-1845
Theatrical portrait
Incomplete theatrical souvenir portrait plate printed with five small engravings of actors in character role. Representing Miss Byron as Diana, Miss Dennet as the Sea Queen, Mr C Hill as Riber, Miss Macarthy as Poll and Mr Honner as Joe Tiller. Miss Macarthy later married Mr Honner, and the two continued to perform the roles of Poll and Joe in the popular nautical melodrama 'Poll and my Partner Joe' alongside T.P. Cooke. Originally the sheet would have had six portraits but one has been cut out. Three of the portraits are hand-coloured. Such portraits would have been sold plain as theatrical souvenirs for colouring and tinselling at home.
