St David of Wales
Handcoloured theatrical souvenir portrait plate printed with an engraving of the character St David of Wales on horseback. The portrait has been cut out and pasted onto card handcoloured with appropriate background scenery. The portrait is embellished with metal foil tinsel ornaments notably on the weapons, horse livery and dress accessories. Cotton cloth has also been applied for the clothing and horse blanket. Such plates would have been sold plain as theatrical souvenirs for colouring and tinselling at home. Printed 'Coloured and sold wholesale and retail by J.Redington at his Theatrical Print, Play & Tinsel Warehouse, 208 Hoxton Old Town and by J.King 45 Chapel Street'.
