Printed Ephemera — 1850-1872
Tinsel print
Handcoloured theatrical souvenir portrait plate printed with an engraving of an unnamed actress in character role. The portrait has been cut out and pasted onto card handcoloured with appropriate background scenery. The portrait is embellished with metal foil tinsel ornaments notably on the jewellery and dress accessories. Cotton cloth has also been applied for the clothing and a garland of flowers is formed from 'scraps'. Such plates would have been sold plain as theatrical souvenirs for colouring and tinselling at home. Coloured and sold by Redington and King.
