Handcoloured theatrical souvenir portrait plate printed with an engraving representing an unnamed actor in character role as a pirate. The portrait has been cut out and pasted onto card handcoloured with appropriate background scenery. The portrait is embellished with metal foil tinsel ornaments notably on the weapons and dress accessories. Cotton cloth has also been applied for the clothing. Such plates would have been sold plain as theatrical souvenirs for colouring and tinselling at home. It is printred 'Coloured and sold Wholesale & Retail by J.Redington at his Theatrical Print, Play & Tinsel Warehouse 208 Hoxton Old Town and Jonathan King 45 Chapel Street'. The portrait has a handwritten title 'The Favourite of the Surry' (sic).
