Printed Ephemera — 1852-11-18
Ticket, funeral ticket
The Duke of Wellington died on 14 September 1852 and was honoured with a state funeral. The streets of London were lined with mourners as his funeral cortege passed by on its way to St Paul's Cathedral for the funeral.
This is an official admission ticket for the funeral on 18 November 1852 with a seat allocation in the north side gallery, over the western entrance. It is printed in black on cream card with a black Greek key pattern border design. The ticket includes the embossed seal of the Earl Marshal's office. The bearer's name has not been filled. The reverse of ticket is coloured a bright green. This enabled marshals at the funeral to direct speedily those attending the funeral to the correct part of the cathedral.
