Mr King as Little John

Theatrical souvenir plate engraved with a portrait of the actor Mr King in the role of Little John. The portrait has been cut out from a paper sheet and stuck on a piece of card with handcoloured background scenery. It is embellished with metal foil tinsel ornaments notably on the armour, weapons, boots and helmet. Silk cloth has been applied for the clothing. Such portraits would have been sold plain as theatrical souvenirs for colouring and tinselling at home. It was published by J Redington, who published a great deal of tinsel prints towards the end of their popularity.
