Mr E.F. Saville as Union Jack
Handcoloured theatrical souvenir plate engraved with a portrait of the actor Mr E.F.Saville in the role of Union Jack. The portrait has been cut out from a paper sheet and stuck onto a piece of cardboard with handcoloured background scenery. The portrait is embellished with metal foil tinsel ornaments notably on the dress accessories and flag. Additional painted paper has been applied to the clothing. Marked 'Coloured and sold wholesale and retail by John Redington at his theatrical print, play and tinsel Warehouse (Hoxton Old Town) and also sold by J.King (Chapel Street)'. Such portraits would have been sold plain as theatrical souvenirs for colouring and tinselling at home.
