Printed Ephemera — 1850-1872
Mdlle Theodore as Columbine
Handcoloured theatrical souvenir portrait of the actress Mdlle Theodore in the role of Columbine. The portrait has been cut out of a paper sheet and stuck onto a piece of card with handcoloured background scenery. The portrait is embellished with metal foil tinsel ornamentation, notably on the dress accessories and jewellery. Silk and cotton cloth has been applied to the areas of clothing and the flower garland is of stamped paper 'scrap'. This print was coloured and sold wholesale and retail by J.Redington (Hoxton) at his Theatrical Print, Play and Tinsel Shop and by J.King (Somers Town).
