Print, engraving, receipt
The subscription and lottery ticket for 'A March to Finchley' by Hogarth. The receipt is inscribed 'Rec'd April 4 1750 of Mr Henry Spragg (inked over) 7s, 6d being the whole payment for a Print Representing a March to Finchly in the year 1746 which I promise to deliver when finish'd on sight hereof.' Lower section of the print has been cut. The ticket shows swords, musket, trumpet, drum and kettledrum, fife, canon, halberd, pickaxe, scimitar, lance with pennon, pistol, broadsword, haversack, Lochaber axe, morning star, Highland target, bagpipe, shield and 2 flags -all objects used in war. On the left, those appropriate to the Scots, those on the right are British weapons. The scroll in front shows the arms of Great Britain and Scotland, with a pair of scissors cutting out the lion rampant of Scotland.
