Printed Ephemera — 1835
Mr T.P.Cooke as Sir Roland the Constant in the Knights of the Round Table
Handcoloured theatrical souvenir plate engraved with portrait of the actor Mr T.P. Cooke in the role of Sir Roland the Constant in the play The Knights of the Round Table. The plate is partly handcoloured. Such sheets would have been sold plain for colouring and tinselling at home.
Cooke was known for his performances in nautical dramas, and was synonymous with the character of the 'jolly jack tar'. Cooke also had a line in supernatural villains, so despite his popularity as an actor he rarely played roles such as this, as Sir Roland the Constant.
