Mr Pitt as King Ahasuerus
Handcoloured theatrical souvenir plate engraved with a portrait of the actor Mr Pitt in the role of King Ahasuerus. The portrait has been cut from a paper sheet, with some background scenery and applied to a pane of glass painted black. Applied to the portrait is clothing of cotton velvet and silk heavily embellished with tinsel ornaments. The headdress & sword are also of tinsel. The portrait was tinselled by the donor's widow A. Jas. Gray. between 1912 and 1914. The portrait would have been printed at an earlier date.
