Printed Ephemera — 1856-04-29
Proclamation of Peace
Broadside printed with details of the official ceremony and procession taking place in London on Tuesday 29th April 1856 to mark the formal declaration of Peace in the Crimean war. The declaration took place nearly a month after the signing of the Treaty of Paris on 30th March 1856.
The broadside notes that the declaration of Peace will be publicly read at St James's Palace and Charing Cross in the City of Westminster before the procession travels to the City via Temple for the public declaration at Chancery Lane, Wood Street and the Royal Exchange. The publication of such information in advance of the ceremony suggests such events were expected to be well attended by the London crowd who embraced the pageantry and spectacle of the Imperial Capital.
