The Streamlet that flow'd, &c'

Songsheet printed in the form of a small broadside entitled 'The Streamlet that flow'd, &c'. This song was sung by Mr Incledon in 'The Woodman' an extremely popular comic opera that was performed at the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden in the 1790s. The two verses of the song are printed below a shield shaped engraving of the a young woman seated beside a stream, a cottage in the background. Printed on 10th December 1793 this was one in a series of ballads and songsheets published by John Marshall in the 1790s.

Songsheets printed with the words of songs from popular operas were primarily sold to theatre goers to enable them to sing along during the performance. Printed by small back street printers primarily based in the Seven Dials area of London they could be purchased outside the theatre from hawkers trading on London's streets.
