Printed Ephemera — 1799
Ticket for the Montpelier Gardens, Walworth
The Montpelier Tea Gardens and Tavern were established by John Bendall in Walworth in the mid 18th century. The gardens were beautifully planted with flowered borders and featured ornamental shells as well as benches for visitors to take tea. In the centre was a small lawn where Volunteer troops would drill. This ticket gave the purchaser admission to the presentation of colours to the St Mary Newington Armed Association on 2nd Sept 1799.
