Sir John Leicester's Picture Gallery - Hill Street, London. Sir John Leicester (1762-1827) was a patron of Turner among others and was the first patron in Britain to open his private collection to public viewing: this was at his gallery at 24 Hill Street, Mayfair, London, shown here with its huge lantern window in the ceiling, chaises longues, chandeliers and paintings. The engraving is in outline, with no heavy shading. One of a series - another of Thomas Hope's gallery in Duchess Street is A8532.
