Printed Ephemera — 1851-1875
Napoleon Buonaparte
Handcoloured portrait print engraved with a portrait of Napoleon Buonaparte on horseback. The portrait is embellished with metal foil tinsel ornaments notably on the dress accessories and weapons. The clothing is of silk and cotton. The portrait has been cut from a paper sheet and mounted on card hand coloured with background scenery. Prints of historical figures were produced for tinselling following the popularity of theatrical tinsel portraits. Such portraits would have been sold plain for colouring and tinselling at home. This portrait was coloured and published by J.Redington & J.King.
